- transposon tagging
- A method of gene isolation that exploits the disruption of normal gene expression that is the result of an insertion of a transposon within, or close to the target. Since the sequence of the transposon is known, this can be used as a DNA probe to define the DNA fragment containing the target gene. Large-scale experiments to generate populations of gene mutations are colloquially referred to as gene machines.
