farmers' rights

farmers' rights
Rights first recognized by Resolution 5 of the 1989 FAO Conference as "rights arising from the past, present and future contributions of farmers in the conservation, improvement and the making available of plant genetic resources"; this item became an attachment to the "International Undertaking on Plant Genetic Resources". The binding "International Treaty of Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture" that resulted from the renegotiations of the Undertaking makes provision for the Farmers' Rights in Article 9.
